The City of Gold Coast has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovation and economic growth through its continued partnership with LuminaX, Australia’s leading early-stage healthtech accelerator.

This collaboration aligns with recent insights outlined in the 2024 City of Gold Coast Economic Outlook Report, which projects significant growth in the technology sector on the Gold Coast.

The City of Gold Coast’s partnership with LuminaX has contributed to fueling $24M in direct funding for startups through our VC partners & mentors and connected founders with 300+ clinicians, execs, and experts.

The Gold Coast’s economic performance has outpaced both state and national averages, cementing its position as Australia’s fastest-growing economy in recent years.

Central to this vision of being a landing pad for startups is the city’s ongoing commitment to LuminaX with the partnership driving our bold mission to build the best Australian healthtech businesses.

The LuminaX HealthTech Accelerator has earned its reputation as a premier accelerator program, helping up to 10 startups annually transform their innovative health and AI solutions into scalable businesses. Now in its 5th year, LuminaX has facilitated the growth of 42 healthtech companies through its intensive 14-week program. The initiative combines education, mentoring, and industry connections to fast-track growth and enable startups to secure customers effectively.

A national campaign is currently underway to identify the most promising healthtech startups for this year’s cohort, with applications opening in January 2025. Selected participants will gain access to the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct’s $5 billion infrastructure and expert guidance from partners, including Gold Coast Health, Griffith University, Queensland AI Hub, and IntelliHQ.

City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate says the strategic partnership underscores the City of Gold Coast’s commitment to fostering innovation and solidifying its position as a hub for healthtech excellence.

“By investing in programs like LuminaX, the city continues to attract forward-thinking entrepreneurs, drive economic growth, and position itself at the forefront of Australia’s tech and health innovation landscape”

Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct Director Craig Rowsell says this partnership is a testament to the Gold Coast’s dedication to collaboration and fostering a thriving healthtech ecosystem.

“The Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct is a national leader in healthtech innovation, with world-class infrastructure, a strong talent pipeline, and a collaborative environment that connects startups with researchers, clinicians, and commercial partners.”

“This ecosystem is critical to driving economic growth, attracting investment, and positioning the Gold Coast as a premier destination for healthtech innovation in Australia and beyond. To have all precinct partners on board (City of Gold Coast, Gold Coast Health, Griffith University and Economic Development Queensland) supporting LuminaX shows our dedication to providing startups the wrap around support and pathways they need to succeed, and our willingness to collaborate to achieve the best outcomes for our city” Mr Rowsell says.
