City of Gold Coast signs on as Major Partner for LuminaX

Cohort Innovation Space and the City of Gold Coast have announced a new partnership to attract Australia’s most promising health and technology entrepreneurs to the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.

The three-year agreement will see the City of Gold Coast support Australia’s leading early-stage healthtech program – LuminaX, cementing the City’s reputation as a launchpad for high-growth startups.

Delivered by Cohort Innovation Space, the LuminaX Accelerator validates and commercialises up to 10 high-growth startups annually with a focus on companies who are using technology or AI to solve problems in the medical and health care space.

Now in its third year, the program will provide comprehensive support to successful applicants by taking founders through a rapid and immersive educational program aimed at accelerating growth and fast-tracking connections and customers.

The City of Gold Coast’s long-term support for the accelerator program will help Cohort Innovation Space deliver on their aim to create a commercial cluster of 50 healthtech companies over 5 years, and build a national reputation for healthtech excellence on the Gold Coast.

A national campaign has been launched to encourage the best founders and startups from around Australia to apply for the competitive program when applications launch later this month.

Selected participants will benefit from the existing $5 billion investment in the Precinct, as well as receive leading advice from industry experts from Griffith University, the Institute of Glycomics, ADaPT, Queensland AI Hub, IntelliHQ, Mater and more.

LuminaX Program Director Dren Xerxa said the accelerator is a much-needed catalyst to support innovative companies to launch and grow on the Gold Coast.

“We are thrilled to welcome the City of Gold Coast as a long-term Major Partner of LuminaX – a program that has gained national recognition as being Australia’s leading program that helps entrepreneurs start and grow successful companies in the health and medical space,” said Mr Xerxa.

“LuminaX has been a vital program for the City’s emerging industries sector and will continue to attract startups to the Gold Coast, creating more knowledge-based jobs and benefiting the City’s economy”.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate is equally as enthusiastic to partner with Cohort Innovation Space. “It’s fantastic to see our city’s relationship with LuminaX evolve with an exciting accelerator program now coming to fruition at the Health and Knowledge Precinct,’’ said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.

“Our council’s vision is to diversify the economy and attract the best start-up enterprises across a range of fields including med-tech and health-tech. I look forward to the outcomes from this 14-week program.’’

The City of Gold Coast join the Queensland Government, Griffith University, and Mater Hospital as partners of the program.

END.
