Gold Coast, Australia – Healthtech startup GenAqua has secured $300k in funding from angel investors, industry supporters, and LX Health to advance commercialisation efforts on its unique point-of-use water disinfection device.
Based at Cohort Innovation Space on the Gold Coast, GenAqua recently completed the LuminaX Accelerator where it was named Start up of the Year ‘25 for their patented innovation that helps hospitals and care facilities face ongoing risks from bacteria that grows inside internal plumbing.
Traditional centralised treatment often cannot remove contamination at the point where water is actually used. GenAqua addresses this by disinfecting water directly at the tap with a compact UVC LED device that is remotely monitored to ensure the correct radiation dose. GenAqua provides a simple and reliable point of use solution that improves safety, reduces operational burden, and saves hospitals millions in preventable infection costs from avoidable water related infections.
The raise provides the capital needed to progress Watermark certification, prepare for manufacturing and support its approved and current in-facility trial with Queensland Health’s Metro North Public Health Unit.
As GenAqua continues to enhance its technology, the team are also exploring opportunities in Southeast Asia, where hotels are seeking solutions that protect guests from waterborne illnesses.
Founder Scott Goulter said the raise marks a turning point for the company.
